This building was built by German settlers for their minister, Peter Nicholas Sommers, who traveled from Hamburg, Germany to Schoharie in 1743. The house is now a living museum offering guided tours of the house and grounds, giving visitors an idea of what colonial life was like.
The Old Stone Fort Museum chronicles the history of the Schoharie Valley area. The site features a home, a Dutch barn, and a stone church from the 18th century, as well as a law office and a one-room school from the 19th century.
